Shameless - Living crappily ever after

Una de esas series poco conocidas y desde luego infravaloradas es Shameless, que debería ser una de las grandes de Showtime. El próximo 13 de enero vuelve con su tercera temporada, y la cadena la ha anunciado con ese genial eslogan - Living crappily ever after -, que define a la perfección a la familia Ghallager. Pues bien, como quedan escasos dos meses para el estreno, ¿qué tal si os intento contar de qué va a ver si os convenzo para verla?

One of those series undervalued and little known is Shameless, which should be one of the biggest of Showtime. Next 13nd of January the third season is going to be aired, and the producers have anounced it with this great slogan - Living crappily ever after -, which describes perfectly the Gallaghers. Well, since we have just two months left till then, what  if I explain you a little bit what is it about and try to convince you to watch it? Let's try it!

Los Gallagher no encajan exactamente con el típico modelo de familia americana viviendo el "American Dream" a lo grande. Nos encontramos con una familia completamente disfuncional, en el que la hermana mayor, Fiona - Emmy Rossum -, es la cabeza de familia, teniendo un padre alcohólico y una madre que les abandonó hace años. William H. Macy hace un auténtico papelón interpretando al padre borracho que se está metiendo en líos en cada capítulo.

The Gallaghers aren't exactly the typical family living the "American Dream". This disfunctional family is led by the biggest sibling, Fionna - Emmy Rossum -, as the father is an alcoholic and the mother abandoned them years ago. William H. Macy makes a great performance of Frank, the alcoholic father who is involved in different fights every episode.

El resto de la familia está compuesta por Phillip "Lip", el chico inteligente de la familia; Ian, el hermano menor gay que aún sigue en el armario, Debbie, la hermana pequeña a la que aún le dura la inocencia a pesar de la familia que le rodea; Carl, el típico niño de 8 años que se mete en problemas; y Liam, el más pequeño de todos, y que misteriosamente es negro a pesar de tener dos padres blancos. Además, cómo no, tenemos a los vecinos, Veronica y Kev, una pareja bastante especial. 

The rest of the family is formed by Phillip "Lip", the smart one; Ian, the gay one; Debbie, the inocent one; Carl, the naughty one; and Lian; the black one. What? Black? Yes, despite being his parents both white - or that's what the mother claims. Added to this we have the neighbors, Veronica and Kev, who are quite a strange couple.  

La serie está desarrollada en un barrio de mala muerte de Chicago (Canaryville), y todos los personajes forman parte de los suburbios. Parece un ambiente bastante trágico, ¿verdad? Pues esta es la gracia de la serie. John Wells, creador de la serie, ha conseguido hacer de esta situación una comedia (bueno, dejémoslo en tragicomedia). Entre las peleas de Frank, los intentos de salvar a la familia de Fiona, los trapicheos de Lip y el intento de un chico de 15 años de esconder su homosexualidad en los suburbios, nos encontramos con esta serie cuyos 40 minutos pasan volando.

The series is set in the surburs of Chicago, a neighborhood called Canaryville, and all the characters belong to the american working-class. It seems a very depressing atmosphere, right? Well, this is why it's so great. It isn't. John Wells, creator of the series, has succeded in making this situation a comedy (okay, let's say a tragicomedy). The mix of Frank's fights, Fiona's desesperate attempts to keep her family afloat, Lip's shady dealings and the attempt of the 15-years-old boy to hide his homosexuality in the suburbs, make the 40 minutes that the series lasts zip by. 

Os aconsejo que le echeis un vistazo a la intro, personalmente me encanta. Y obviamente, a la serie, que merece la pena.
